About our foodbank

Here is an introduction to our project.

Our foodbank is a project founded on Christian Principles by local people, local churches and community groups, working together towards stopping hunger in our local area.

Llandrindod Foodbank began as a Trussell Trust foodbank in 2013.  We had been a small independent foodbank before then but realised that the need was greater than we initially thought and having the expertise of Trussell Trust behind us helped us develop into a more useful resource for our community.  We became an independent charity in 2017 and are registered with the Charity Commission as Llandrindod Foodbank, but are still part of the Trussell Trust network of Foodbanks in the UK.

We are currently operating out of Oasis, Spa Road Llandrindod Wells LD1 5ER.  This is a building that was donated to us by a local benefactor and we are in the process of renovating it and making it a useful building for the community to access not just a foodbank bur also an advice centre to help more people regain control of their finances and self esteem.  We believe that we should be giving people the chance of a ‘Hand up’ not just a ‘Hand Out’.

We are open Tuesday and Friday 10:30 till 1pm and on a Wednesday from 12:30 till 2:30.

On a Tuesday morning we have Pobl with us conducting a Drop In for advice on benefits and housing issues, Friday morning we have an Energy Advisor available for people to chat to about all things energy together with a Citizens Advice advisor being available for face to face meetings by appointment, as we no longer have a Citizens Advice office in Llandrindod.  As our building program progresses we hope to have more capacity to offer further advice options too.

The last Monday of every month there is a group who meet that is for Ex Service men and women, where they can come along and sit with a coffee and chat. This is run by the charity ‘Help for Heroes’ and is open from 10:00 – 12:00 as a Drop-in.

We also now have shower and Laundry facilities available on a referral basis, for those unable to access such facilities at home, either due to homelessness or financial restrictions.
